A policeman of Dhaka District North Traffic Division has been accused of breaking a rickshaw puller's leg by beating him with an iron pipe in Savar. The rickshaw pullers protested by blocking the road in this incident. On Friday (May 17) the rickshaw puller was beaten with an iron rod in Genda area of Dhaka-Aricha highway and injured.
Name of the injured rickshaw driver. Fazlu He is the son of Abul Hossain of Bansapur area of Hakimpur police station of Dinajpur district. He has been living in Savar for almost 22 years.
Accused policeman is Dhaka District North Traffic Division Racker Driver Md. Sohail Rana. The incident took place on Friday (May 17) when the rickshaw drivers Sohail and Mustafa Savar were on duty.
The victim rickshaw driver Fazlu said, I was driving an autorickshaw on the Dhaka-bound lane on the Dhaka-Aricha highway. At that time, two people including the rickshaw driver Sohail chased from the front of Pakiza on a motorcycle. They caught me when I went near Genda bus stand. If you ask me to stop the rickshaw, I want to stop the site. He then hit his left leg with an iron rod.
He also said that when I tried to resist with my hands, he beat my right leg with that iron rod and broke my leg. Then I passed out, and could not stand up. Seeing the beaten condition, the locals came and surrounded the policeman. Then the policeman said to everyone, I made a mistake and now let the rickshaw puller take him to the hospital for treatment. Later the locals left. But he told me to take another rickshaw to the government hospital and left.
Meanwhile, after hearing this incident in front of the Savar Press Club, other rickshaw pullers protested by blocking the road demanding justice.
A rickshaw driver named Rubel from the protest said that while going to the government hospital with the victim Fazlu, the two people who stopped the auto rickshaw along with the rickshaw pullers stopped it again. Later, other rickshaw pullers came to know about the matter and protested by blocking Thanarod in front of the press club. After receiving the information, the police explained them and removed them from the road.
He also said that when Fazlu was taken to the government hospital, he was returned. Later he was sent to Super Clinic. We drive rickshaws on local roads. We are poor people, seeing his suffering and standing on the road demanding justice. This Sohail took 2000 rupees by taking a rickshaw within a week.
Attempts were made to contact Sohail Rana, the accused in the incident, but he could not be found. However, the rickshaw driver Mustafa said, I did not kill that rickshaw driver. But I am in charge of the racker on Friday (May 17). I arranged for him to be sent to the hospital for treatment. I see these incidents when I come to duty. Later I arranged to send the rickshaw puller to the hospital for treatment.
In this regard, Dhaka District North Traffic Police Admin Hossain Shahid Chowdhury said that the matter will be investigated and necessary measures will be taken.
