At least 500 Rohingya have crossed the border into Bangladesh in one day. Before this, another two hundred people came through the border of Cox's Bazar on Friday. At least eight thousand Rohingyas have come through Ukhia and Teknaf border in the last two weeks. On Saturday (September 7), these Rohingyas entered Bangladesh by crossing the border at various points of the Naf River.
Residents and public representatives of the border area said that the Teknaf Upazila of Bangladesh flows through the Naf river, which is four kilometers wide, opposite (to the west) Mangdu township in Rakhine. In the dark of night, Rohingyas from Sudapara, Faizipara, Sikdarpara and Nurullapara villages of Mangdu township are crossing the Naf river and entering Bangladesh. Most of the Rohingyas are entering Bangladesh through Jadimora, Damdamia, Keruntali, Baritli, Nightongpara, Jaliapara, Nazirpara, Moulvipara, Nayapara, Shahpari Dwip, Jaliapara, Mistripara, Gholarchar, Khurermukh, Alir Dale, Maheshkhaliapara, Lambri, Tulatli, Rajacharchra, Baharara border and coast. .
Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Adnan Chowdhury said that there are incidents of Rohingya infiltration through different points of the border. A large number of Rohingya are being sent back to Myanmar from the Naf River during the incursion. Patrolling along the Naf River and the border has been stepped up to prevent infiltration.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Main Uddin of 16 Armed Police Battalion (APBN), who is in charge of the security of Teknaf refugee camp, told the media that some Rohingyas have entered the refugee camp. They are being monitored. Strict security measures have been taken in the shelter camp so that no new Rohingyas can enter.
It should be noted that Rohingyas started entering Bangladesh like a stream from Rakhine (Arakan) state on August 25, 2017 in the face of torture and genocide by the Myanmar army. Within a few months, seven and a half million Rohingya took refuge in Ukhia-Teknaf in Cox's Bazar. Where another four lakh were already living in the camp.
In the face of international pressure, Myanmar's Aung San Suu Kyi government agreed to take back the Rohingyas at the end of that year. Bilateral agreement with Bangladesh in September of that year.
In 2019, a two-phase repatriation initiative was taken at a stage of discussion on various issues including the confirmation of the identity of the escaped Rohingyas. But the Rohingyas could not trust the Myanmar government, the talks collapsed.
