At least 88 members of the Myanmar Border Guard Police (BGP) with weapons were reported to have fled to Bangladesh through Shahpari Island on the Naf Nad border of Cox's Bazar's Teknaf border. Locals said that the Coast Guard members have taken the escaped BGP members into custody.
The three wooden trawlers were taken into custody by the Coast Guard early Sunday morning (May 5) when they crossed the border. At this time, the local people saw them taking time. However, no responsible officer of the Coast Guard agreed to talk about the matter.

Eyewitnesses said that the Myanmar BGP members who were brought in a wooden trawler were taken into custody by Coast Guard personnel and kept at the Coast Guard Station office at Keruntali in Teknaf. There are at least 88 BGP members. A few buses are also waiting next to the Coast Guard Station office. Earlier on Saturday morning some more Myanmar BGP members escaped and took refuge in Bangladesh.
