The Cabinet has approved the draft of the 'Widow and Husband Nigrahita Bhata Scheme Implementation Policy, 2024'.
This approval was given in the Cabinet meeting held at the Prime Minister's Office on Monday (April 1). Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting.
At the press conference at the secretariat after the meeting, the council secretary said. Mahbub Hossain said, a very big social security program of the Bangladesh government is the implementation of widow and husband support program. It was started by the Prime Minister in 1998-99. In the financial year 2024-25, 25 lakh 75 thousand widows and husband deserters have been given allowance. They are given a monthly allowance of Rs.550. Now some changes have been made in that policy.
He said that in the previous policy, it was said that the personal annual income should be below 12,000 rupees. Now it has been increased to 15 thousand rupees. That is, those who earn less than 15 thousand rupees per year, they will come under the allowance. Now each beneficiary is paid Rs 550 per month. A total of 25 lakh 75 thousand people are given this allowance.
The new policy has made it mandatory to pay the allowance through mobile financial services, he said, adding that the allowance will be paid on a GTP (Government to Individual) basis.
