The army was deployed on Thursday (22 August) as the flood situation worsened in the northeastern and southeastern regions of Bangladesh. Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) informed this information in a press release on Thursday (August 22).
According to the press release, due to the deterioration of the flood situation, the army has been deployed to rescue the flood victims in Mirsarai of Chittagong, Burichong of Comilla, Akhaura of Brakshanbaria, Shaestaganj of Habiganj and Kulaura of Moulvibazar.
Soldiers of Bangladesh Army's 17th Infantry Division, 24th Infantry Division and 33rd Infantry Division are deployed in their respective responsible areas and are relentlessly conducting rescue operations to evacuate the trapped people to safe places. Besides, five medical teams of the army have been deployed in Feni, Chittagong, Moulvibazar and Habiganj for medical assistance.
It is to be noted that since August 21, the soldiers of 33 Infantry Division of Bangladesh Army have been deployed to rescue the flood victims in Parashuram and Fulgazi upazilas of Feni district. The Bangladesh Army has so far rescued approximately 6,000 flood-affected people in the flood-affected districts and sent them to various shelters. Besides, relief and food distribution is going on among the flood victims.
Apart from this, other formations of the Bangladesh Army are monitoring the flood situation very carefully in their respective areas and are ready to assist the civilian administration. The Army Chief has directed the Bangladesh Army to continue this humanitarian operation as a symbol of the nation's confidence until the flood situation normalizes.
