The International Criminal Tribunal has issued arrest warrants against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 28 people in two cases of crimes against humanity due to disappearances during the Awami League government.
Justice Md. on Wednesday (October 8). A three-member bench headed by Golam Mortuza Majumder passed the order. The tribunal directed the accused to appear before the court by October 22.
Apart from Hasina, those against whom arrest warrants have been issued include former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan and former prime minister's defense adviser retired Major General Tariq Ahmed Siddique. Most of the remaining accused are former and present army officers.
The prosecution (prosecution) filed a formal complaint in two cases of disappearance before the tribunal. Later, Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam presented two complaints to the tribunal and applied for the issuance of warrants. The tribunal allowed his plea.
Prosecutor Gazi Monawar Hussain Tamim told reporters after filing the formal complaint in the tribunal in the morning that a formal complaint has been filed against Sheikh Hasina, her defense advisor Tariq Ahmed Siddique and 17 people in a case of disappearance. A total of five charges have been brought.
In this case, along with Sheikh Hasina, Asaduzzaman Khan and Tariq Ahmed Siddique, the accused are former IGP Benazir Ahmed, former director general of RAB M Khurshid Hossain, former director general of RAB Md. Haroon-or-Rashid, RAB's former Additional Director General (Ops) Colonel Anwar Latif Khan, RAB's former Additional Director General (Ops) Brigadier General Md. Jahangir Alam, former Additional Director General of RAB (Ops) Brigadier General Tofail Mustafa Sarwar, former Additional Director General of RAB (Ops) Colonel KM Azad, former Additional Director General of RAB (Ops) Brigadier General Md. Kamrul Hasan, RAB's former Additional Director General (Ops) Brigadier General Md. Mahabub Alam, RAB's former Additional Director General (Ops) Colonel Abdullah Al Momen, RAB's former Director (Intelligence Wing) Lt. Col. Sarwar Bin Kashem, Former Director of RAB (Intelligence Wing) Lt. Col. (retd.) Muhammad Khairul Islam, Former Director of RAB (Intelligence Wing) Lt. Col. Md. Moshiur Rahman Jewel and former director of RAB (Intelligence Wing) Lt. Col. Saiful Islam Sumon.
Sheikh Hasina and Tariq Siddique along with other accused in this case are the former Director General of DGFI Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Akbar Hossain, former Director General of DGFI Major General (Retd.) Md. Saiful Abedin, former Director General of DGFI Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Saiful Alam, former Director General of DGFI Lieutenant General (retd) Ahmed Tabrez Shams Chowdhury, former Director General of DGFI Major General (retd) Hamidul Haque, former Director of CTIB of DGFI Major General (retd) Mohammad Tauhidul ul Islam, former Director of CTIB of DGFI Major General Sheikh Md. Sarwar Hossain, former director of CTIB of DGFI Major General Kabir Ahmed, former director of CTIB of DGFI Brigadier General Md. Mahbubur Rahman Siddiqui, former Director CTIB of DGFI Brig Gen Ahmed Tanveer Mazahar Siddiqui and Lt Col (retd) Makhchurul Haque.
Sheikh Hasina fled the dictatorship and took refuge in India last year during the student uprising. His government minister Asaduzzaman Khan is also in India. Sheikh Hasina's sister Sheikh Rehana's brother-in-law Tariq Siddique is also abroad.
