Advocate Tajul Islam, the newly appointed chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal, said that the state will seek arrest warrants for the accused of crimes against humanity during the investigation.
Tajul Islam said these things after joining the International Criminal Tribunal as Chief Prosecutor on Sunday morning. He was joined by the rest of the prosecutors today.
Tajul Islam said, legal steps will be taken soon to return Sheikh Hasina to the country. A formal investigation into Sheikh Hasina's trial has not yet begun. However, not only Sheikh Hasina, but all those who were involved in this massacre will be formally prosecuted.
Tajul Islam said that the evidence of the massacre that took place in July is being tried to be destroyed in various ways. The task of preserving it and bringing it into the legal framework to prove the cases is now more important to us. I will try to complete the genocide trial properly by preserving these evidences.
He also said, we have just taken responsibility. I will start the investigation process of genocide very soon. So that the evidence is not destroyed and those who are potential accused cannot go outside the law, cannot leave the country. If the court sits, I will seek arrest warrant against Sheikh Hasina and the possible accused.
Earlier, on Thursday, a notification was issued appointing the new Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam and others. This information was informed by the Ministry of Law on Saturday night.
