Arrested 4 with 440 sacks of Indian sugar in Sherpur


Police have arrested four people along with 440 sacks of Indian sugar smuggled from India at Nalitabari in Sherpur. At this time, a truck and a pickup were seized.

On Thursday (March 21) morning, the sugar and vehicles from Baghaitala of Haluaghat were arrested at Araiani Kalema Chatwar junction of the city.

The arrested persons are Harun Mia (32) of Palashtala village of Haluaghat, Mymensingh, Sohel Mia (26), truck driver of Haluaghat East Bazar, pickup driver Sheikh Farid (24) of Ghoshber village of the same upazila and Hriday Das (19), helper of Sangra village.

According to the police, in the morning Harun Mia, a businessman of Baghaitala market, was smuggling 440 sacks of Indian sugar in a truck and a pickup truck. On the basis of such secret information, a raiding team of Nalitabari police station under the leadership of SI Anwar Hossain took position in Araiani Bazar Kalema square of the city.

At that time, while crossing the Kalema square, the truck and pickup were seized and the Indian sugar sacks were found. Later, the truck and pickup truck and the sugar were seized for failing to show valid documents. At the same time, four people including smuggler Harun Mia were arrested. Later, a case was filed against them under the Special Powers Act and sent to jail through the court.
