In recognition of his contribution to the establishment of world peace, the honorable 'Bangabandhu Shanti Padak' will be awarded every two years from 2025, Minister of Liberation War Affairs AKM Mozammel Haque said.
He said this at a seminar titled 'Bangabandhu: A Champion of World Peace' organized by Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) on Thursday. The seminar was held at the BIISS Auditorium in the capital.
The Liberation War Minister said that an impartial and international jury board will be formed for awarding medals. Along with that, a policy will also be made. Under this policy, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Peace Award can be given to any person, institution or organization for their contribution in several fields in the establishment of peace in Bangladesh and any part of the world or worldwide.
In the seminar, the Minister of Liberation War said, to contribute to the establishment of world peace, to take effective initiatives and contributions to resolve wars, to take effective initiatives to establish peace in conflict-conflict situations, to make an important contribution to the establishment of human rights, to play an effective role in creating a world free from hunger and poverty, sustainable social, environmental and achieving the overall welfare of the state and society through economic development – these areas will be taken into consideration in awarding the award.
AKM Mozammel Haque said, Bangabandhu said world peace is the principle of life. I am with the oppressed, oppressed, exploited and freedom fighting people, wherever they are. We want peace everywhere in the world to be consolidated. Panic for peace was an essential part of Bangabandhu's political philosophy. Bangabandhu's thoughts and calls for peace were later evaluated globally.
Shahriar Alam MP, Member of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President of World Peace Parishad Bangladesh Chapter Mozaffar Hossain Paltu spoke as special guests in the seminar.
Major General Abu Bakar Siddique Khan, Director General of BIISS gave welcome speech in the seminar. BIISS Senior Research Fellow M Ashiq Rahman, Lt Col (retd) Sajjad Ali Zahir and Ambassador Mashfi binte Shams presented three topics in the seminar. The presentations were followed by a question and answer session.
BIISS Chairman Ambassador AFM Gosol Azam Sarkar moderated the seminar and delivered the closing remarks.
