Bangi damage due to hailstorm in Munshiganj  All Bengal


Kalbaisakhi storm and hailstorm have damaged the edible bangi of Khaskandi and Ramzanbeg villages of Munshiganj municipality. Bangi farmers say that they have suffered a loss of crores of rupees due to the hailstorm that lasted for half an hour on Sunday night.

It is known that the Kalbaisakhi storm hit different places of Munshiganj municipality at around 12:00 pm yesterday. Hail started with the storm. Due to this, the Bangi planted on the land of Khaskandi and Ramzanbeg villages of the municipality has been destroyed.

Talking to the farmers of Khaskandi and Ramzanbeg villages around 12 noon on Monday (May 6), it is said that about 80 farmers have planted Bangi in those two villages. After a few weeks, they were supposed to pick up bangi from the land and sell it in the market. But all their dreams were shattered by the hailstorm yesterday. Bangi was destroyed by rock. As a result, each farmer has suffered a loss ranging from 1 to 2.5 lakh taka.

Abdul Aziz Bhuiyan, a farmer of Ramzanbeg village, said, I cultivated bangi on 60 percent of the land. After seven days, this fruit was thought to be sold in the market. I hoped for the best. But the night hail destroyed all my bungees.

Another farmer of the same village. Qadir Ali said, 'Shila Pairiya, all my food is gone. 60 percent of the land has cultivated bangi. I could sell 2 lakhs. I don't even get a single rupee.'

Omar Ali (40) of Khaskandi area returned home from Malaysia recently. He said, 'After returning to the country, I planted bangi on my grandfather's land. 2 lakh has been spent. After 7-8 days, they would pick up the bangi from the land and take it to the market. But, in the hail, that hope is molasses. All the land was destroyed. I could not have sold Bangi for even a single rupee.'

Biplab Kumar Mohant, Deputy Director of Munshiganj District Agriculture Extension Department, said that more than 30 hectares of crops have been damaged in the district due to Kalboishakhi storm and hailstorm. Out of this, around 15 to 20 hectares of vegetables are damaged. Also 5 hectares of Bangir land has been damaged.
