Bangladesh joined the Global Coalition for Social Justice

Bangladesh has joined the Global Coalition for Social Justice established by the International Labor Organization (ILO). The official decision to join the first forum of the coalition in Geneva on behalf of the Bangladesh Permanent Mission was conveyed to the coalition secretariat.

Bangladesh Permanent Mission in Geneva informed this information on Friday (June 14).

The coalition was established in November last year with the aim of contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030 by addressing the global social justice gap through strengthening multilateral cooperation and partnerships.

In June 2023, at the invitation of the Director General of the International Labor Organization, Gilbert Hongbo, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the heads of state and government of different countries of the world joined the World of Work Summit – Social Justice for All – summit in Geneva. At the conference, world leaders expressed their views on the outline of the coalition. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presented her five-point recommendations for coalition formation.

Six priorities were initially identified for the coalition based on everyone's input. These include addressing inequality and discrimination, ensuring labor rights and human dignity, sustainable business and decent employment. The coalition will work to bring policy harmony through effective coordination and participation of international organizations, governments and private partners in these matters.

The governments of 72 countries, including the United States, India, China, United Kingdom, Spain, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Mexico, have joined the Global Coalition. Bangladesh became the 73rd country to become a partner of this important coalition.
