The Election Commission (EC) summoned Abdul Hafiz Mallik, Member of Parliament of Barisal-6 Constituency, for voting openly in the upazila elections.
He has been asked to appear before the EC on Wednesday (May 15) at 12 noon to explain the matter. Besides, the EC has also summoned the chairman candidate Jamil Hasan in Gazipur's Sreepur Upazila for violating the code of conduct.
This MP came to the discussion by voting publicly in the Bakerganj upazila parishad election of Barisal district in the first phase of voting on May 8. The EC has asked him to appear in the election building at 12 noon on Wednesday to explain about such election crimes.

It is said in the letter that Hafiz Mallik voted publicly at the polling station of Mangalsi Government Primary School No. 47 on the day of polling in Bakerganj Upazila Parishad elections held on May 8, which has been published in various media with pictures. Failure to maintain the secrecy of the vote by voting publicly is an electoral offense punishable under the provisions of Rule 78 of the Upazila Parishad Election Rules, 2013. Due to the commission of this crime, the commission has decided to personally appear before the Election Commission at 12 noon on Wednesday to explain why a letter will not be sent to the Speaker to file a case against you and take systematic action.
Religion Minister Faridul Haque Khan was summoned for public voting in the last 12th parliamentary elections. Later he came to the EC and requested the Election Commission to look at the matter 'with a sympathetic eye'.
Meanwhile, the EC has sent a letter to Jamil Hasan, the chairman candidate in Gazipur's Sreepur Upazila election, seeking to know why the candidature will not be cancelled, as he is violating the code of conduct despite giving a show-cause notice. He has been asked to appear in the election building on the morning of May 15 to explain the matter. In this upazila, the second phase of voting will be held on May 21.
Upazila voting is being done in four stages. The first phase of voting ended on May 8. Then there are votes on May 21, May 29 and June 5.
