Former Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed has built a mountain of wealth in Madaripur. He bought 276 bigha land in the name of his wife Zeeshan Mirza at Rajair in Madaripur at a nominal price.
It is known that Benji bought these lands in his wife's name only 594 days before his retirement. The lands are in Dumuria Mauza of Satpar village of Rajoir Upazila of Madaripur. These lands were purchased in 113 documents during the period of 2021 and 2022 during the presence of the IGP. The deed value of these shows a total of 10 crore 22 lakh taka. It can be seen that the price of land per bigha has fallen to 3 lakh 79 thousand taka. But the market price is several times more than this.
According to local sources, Benazir Ahmed bought most of the 276 bigha land by abusing his power. Those who did not want to sell the land were threatened in various ways. He also complained that he was subjected to torture when he did not want to write down the land.
Locals complain that Benazir Ahmed has forcibly registered the crop land in the name of his wife. And a local man named Taib Ali helped in this. All the land was bought and sold through a person named Taib Ali, who is known to be close to the police. If the land is not registered, many people have to be tortured.
According to local residents and land owners, Benazir Ahmed forcibly bought the crop land of Dumuria Mouza, Natakhola and Barakhola areas of Satpar village of Kadambari union of Rajour upazila.
In addition to 276 bighas in Rajoi's 113 deeds, Benazir Ahmed bought 5 khata of land in Shibchar Thengamara Mauza in 2015.
Lhasanam Sen of Aruakandi village of Kadambari union of Rajair upazila said that 24 acres and 83 percent of the crop land belongs to our clansmen. Benazir Ahmed bought all this land. Gave 3.5 lakh rupees per bigha. About two years ago, Benazir Ahmed and his family wrote down this land out of fear. First, he bought land from all sides, and forced us to write it down as our land was in the middle.
An old woman named Saraswati Roy (70) of Satpar Dumuria village said, “We did not want to give the land.” Benazir wrote down the land under fear. Crops were grown on this land. After the write down we have no more land to cultivate. I was holding on to this cropland with great difficulty, but even that was not saved.
Rasmoy Biswas, a resident of Barakhola village, said that Benazir Ahmad has taken 32 percent of the land from us. Amal Bala, son of Sukdev Bala of neighboring Kadambari area, said similar things.
He said, Benazir's people threatened us. His people said that if the land is not registered, he will have to fly home. Stick around. Many people have written down the land due to such oppression.
Madaripur court lawyer Advocate Golam Kibria said, forcefully writing down someone's property is a criminal offence. Victims can sue if they want.
Advocate Masud Parvez, president of Madaripur Development Struggle Parishad, said that Benazir Ahmad and his family illegally owned huge amount of wealth by using state power. ACC will not only account for illegal assets. He also needs to be tried for the heinous crime he has committed by abusing state power.
