Bengals HC Zac Taylor Provides Latest Update on Ja’Marr Chase Holdout

The drama in Cincinnati continues as we are only four days away from the start of the Bengals’ season.

More news: Ja’Marr Chase Still Not Practicing For Bengals With Season Opener Inching Closer

The Bengals are set to take on the New England Patriots in their Week 1 matchup, and Ja’Marr Chase’s status remains uncertain. Not only does his status for Week 1 remain uncertain, but so does his status for Wednesday’s practice.

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor provided the latest update on Chase and whether he will practice, and he had a simple response: “We’ll see.”

ESPN’s Adam Schefter shared via Twitter/X.

On Tuesday, Taylor said that Chase remained day-to-day as he continues to not practice in search of a contract extension.

Senior NFL insider for The Athletic Dianna Russini shared that Wednesday is a big day for the Bengals as it is the first true practice of the week, during which most of the game plan is installed. If he does not practice, it will be difficult for Chase to play this Sunday with such a short amount of time to grasp the game plan.

With or without Chase, the Bengals should be just fine as they prepare to face the lowly Patriots. Cincinnati are home favorite in Sunday’s contest, with the largest spread of the weekend at -7.5.

The next-highest spread belongs to the Buffalo Bills as they prepare to face the Arizona Cardinals with a -6.5-point edge.

However, the longer that Chase is not out there, the more it could hurt their Super Bowl title chances. Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow could be without his college buddy and star teammate. When both are healthy and available, they are among the best quarterback-wide receiver duos in the league. We’ve witnessed how successful Chase and Burrow are when they are together; if one is missing, it is not the same.

Chase missed all of training camp and multiple practices in the last week as he is still in search of a contract extension similar to that of his peers. This summer has been a big one for wide receivers as some of the top pass catchers like Vikings’ Justin Jefferson, Lions’ Amon-Ra St. Brown, Eagles’ A.J. Brown, and Cowboys’ CeeDee Lamb received contract extensions.

Chase wants to be the next one in line; however, the Bengals are not budging just yet. The 24-year-old is one of the top wide receivers in the game, and he’s already accomplished so much in his first three years in the league. Now he just wants to be paid like it.
