'Bhuiya Mansion' is silent now, no one is opening their mouths out of fear

After the arrest of Shimul Bhuiyan and his nephew Tanvir Bhuiyan for their alleged involvement in the murder of MP Anwarul Azim Anna, the entire family hid from their house 'Bhuiyan Mansion' in Damodar village of Phultala upazila in Khulna. Their house has been locked for the past three days. There is silence. Residents of Mahmud Hasan Bhuiyan aka Shimul Bhuiyan and his family are afraid to open their mouths.

Incidentally, Anwarul Azim Anar, Member of Parliament of Jhenaidah-4 Constituency, was killed in a flat in Kolkata on May 13. Three accused arrested in this incident are in 8 days remand. The accused are – Amanullah alias Shimul Bhuiyan, Tanveer Bhuiyan and Shilasti. Mumtarin Ferdous Doreen, daughter of the deceased Anwarul Azim Anar, filed a case of abduction with intent to murder at Dhaka's Sherbanglanagar police station on May 22.

The residents of Damodar village believe that the hands of the Bhuiyan family are too long. They have connections with influential leaders and personalities of various political parties. As a result, even if the murder of MP Anwarul Azim Anna is uproar for a few days, nothing will happen to Shimul Bhuiyan. Because of this, no one wants to be in danger by giving any information about them.

According to local residents, the chief of the military wing of the banned extremist group Communist Party of East Bengal (Janan Judda) Mahmud Hasan Bhuiyan alias Shimul Bhuiyan alias Syed Amanullah alias Amanullah Saeed alias Shihab alias Abul Fazal alias Fazal Molla alias Fazal was in hiding before his arrest, but sometimes in disguise at night. He used to come to the village house. Except for a couple of elderly people, no one else in the area knew him.

Curious people flocked to the shops in Phultala Bazar and surrounding areas to see Shimul Bhuiyan's picture published in the newspaper. Seeing Shimul Bhuiyan's photo in the newspaper, a person said in a soft voice, “I can't imagine such a beautiful looking person can be a terrible terrorist and cruel.” He said that the people of the area heard the name of Shimul Bhuiyan but never saw him directly. His picture is not visible. Everyone knows the story of his terrorist life. As a result, local people are curious about him.

It was found that Shimul Bhuiyan used to study at Damodar Muktamayi Secondary School of Fultala Upazila. His roll number was one (1) till class eight. After that he got involved in the world of crime.

When asked about this from a school friend of Shimul Bhuiyan, he avoided the matter. However, another resident of Damodar village said on condition of anonymity that Shimul Bhuiyan was told to pass honors in Bengali subject from Rajshahi University but this is not true. As the reason, he said, he got involved in the world of crime at a very young age. He was sentenced to life imprisonment for various crimes including multiple murder cases. After a long time, he was on the run after being released from prison on bail. As a result, his education should not be too much.

Meanwhile, like Shimul Bhuiya, his brothers and nephews are also connected with terrorist activities, according to local residents and police. According to them, the whole family is a terrorist.

Locals said Shimul Bhuiyan's brother Wazir Mohammad Bhuiyan alias Mukul Bhuiyan lost his right hand while making a bomb. After that his name was 'Haat Kata Mukul'. He was also associated with the extremist group Jan War. There were several cases against him. He was killed in the crossfire in 2004.

Shimul's younger brother Sharif Mohammad Bhuiyan alias Shiplu Bhuiyan. He is the current chairman of Damodar Union Parishad. There were several cases against him, including the murder case of Sardar Alauddin Mithu, former chairman of Fultala upazila and organizational secretary of Khulna district BNP. Currently there is not a case against him. Tanveer Bhuiyan is the son of Shimul Bhuiyan's elder brother Hanif Mohammad Bhuiyan alias Lucky Bhuiyan, arrested for his involvement in the murder of MP Anwarul Azim Anna. Tanveer Bhuiyan was arrested three years ago along the Bhairab River in Damodar with weapons and drugs.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Fultala Police Station. Rafiqul Islam said that the case against Shiplu Bhuiyan was dismissed by the court. Besides, there was no case against him in the last 10 years. However, his nephew Tanveer Bhuiyan was arrested three years ago with weapons and drugs.

Shimul Bhuiyan goes to Damodar's house and finds the main gate of the house locked. The doors and windows of the house are also closed. Locals said that since the arrest of Shimul Bhuiyan in Dhaka, everyone in the house including his brother UP Chairman Shiplu Bhuiyan has gone into hiding.

Aziz had a relationship with Shimul Bhuiyan 5 years ago: Extremist party leader Shimul Bhuiyan came in contact with Aziz alias Azir (35) of Alka village of Fultala upazila, arrested in the murder of Parliamentarian Anwarul Azim Anna. Aziz is the son of Alauddin Ahmed, a poor dubbing seller of Fultala Bazar. 10 years ago, Aziz used to drive a van in the surrounding villages including Phultala Bazar.

According to local sources, Aziz was once caught stealing in Alka village. He then started working as a truck helper. Later became a truck driver. Three years ago, Aziz was elected general secretary of Phultala Truck Workers Union. In addition to this, he got involved with the extremist East Bengal Communist Party. People of Phultala area were surprised after the news of Aziz's arrest along with Shimul Bhuiya spread.

Butcher arrested in India at Ziad's home in Dighlia: Jihad Howladar (24) alias Butcher Jihad was arrested in Barakpur village of Dighlia upazila of Khulna in Mumbai, India on the charge of dismembering the body of Jhenaidah-4 Constituency Member of Parliament Anwarul Azim Anar. Phultala and Dighlia as well as upazila. Bhairava river in the middle. Jihad, son of Rang Mistry Zainal Howladar of Gazipara, Barakpur village, not far from Shimul Bhuiya's house.

Although Jihad Howladar was described as a butcher in Indian media, no one locally saw him working as a 'butcher'. But he often traveled to India. Many people of Dighlia Upazila work in different areas including Mumbai and Barakpur in Khulna, India. That's why he had to travel to those areas. No one in the area can think that a member of parliament can be involved in an incident like Jihad. He is also accused of involvement in the murder.

Barakpur Union Parishad Chairman Gazi Sahagir Hossain Pavel said that Jihad Howladar has not been seen in the area for the last one and a half to two years. There are no allegations of crime against him in our area. His family is good. His father worked as a dyer. Elder brother-sister is a primary school teacher. Another brother is also a madrasa teacher.

Jihad's father Zainal Howladar said, “Every son of mine is established.” My family will not take the responsibility of this son of Kulanga.

Babul Akhtar, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dighlia Police Station, said that we are getting many calls from journalists about the arrest of Jihad Howladar in India. We have no information about him. Our senior officers also did not give us any instructions in this regard. Still we are looking into Jihad Howladar.
