With the new NFL season officially underway, a new season is kicking off without future Hall of Fame head coach Bill Belichick on the sidelines for the first time since 1975. Belichick stepped away from the New England Patriots this past offseason and has yet to find another job in the league.

That could be changing as soon as next season. According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, Belichick could be aiming to return to the NFL as a head coach in 2025.
However, if he does return, it will be with a specific team that he feels has the tools to win. His resume allows him to be picky, and Belichick won’t come back just to do so.
“Those who know Belichick best say that despite his burgeoning media résumé, the six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach still would like to return to coaching in 2025, but only in the right situations with good jobs.”
The former Patriots head coach had chances to return to the sidelines this offseason but as a staff member, not head coach. Both the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams considered Belichick for their defensive coordinator roles but the veteran decided to pass for a potential head coaching role next season.
But just because Belichick is away from coaching this year doesn’t mean he is leaving the game. He will be on Monday night’s “ManningCast” and is serving as a strategic advisor for the 33rd Team.
His love for the game of football goes beyond being on the sidelines but Belichick seems to be itching to return. He has nothing to prove in his long, historic career other than simply wanting to go out on his terms.
Staying near the game will allow Belichick to scout teams and see where he could want to end up. There are always coaching openings in the NFL so the future Hall of Famer will have at least a few options to work with.
Belichick won six Super Bowls while in New England, helping to create one of the greatest dynasties in sports history. The issue was that New England had been fading in relevancy over the past few years and it was time for both sides to move on from one another.
But his leave from the league could be short-lived, and fans could see Belichick back next season, ready to go for Super Bowl number seven.
