Before the appointment of a new vice chancellor in Chittagong University, teachers supporting BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami made counter statements. On Thursday afternoon and night, both sides issued press releases stating their positions on the issue.
The first notification was given by the Sada Dal known as Jamaat-e-Islami teachers' organization on the campus. In the circular, Sada Dal is identified as a teaching society that believes in freedom, democracy, religious values and Bangladeshi nationalism. The circular mentions recommending party convener Professor Shamim Uddin Khan for the post of Vice-Chancellor. However, there is no explanation in the notification as to where this recommendation has been made, whether any letter has been sent to the government or the concerned authority or whether such recommendation has been sought from the government or not.
The pro-BNP teachers' organization Nationalist Teachers' Forum issued a counter notification on the matter.
It has been said that for more than a decade in Chittagong University, there is no front called Sada Dal, which consists of teachers of nationalist ideals. Currently Sada Dal refers to the group of teachers supported by Jamaat. Separated from Jamaat-backed teachers for ideological reasons, teachers of nationalist ideology are united and active under the banner of 'Nationalist Teachers' Forum'. Therefore, the current activities of the so-called Sada Dal have nothing to do with the teachers' society that believes in Bangladeshi nationalism.
Professor Shamim Uddin Khan, convenor of the White Party, said, “This allegation is completely false.” They have left 10-15 people from the group to achieve this personal interest. Half of our people here are BNP. If they leave 10-15 people, it cannot be said that the team is over.'
When asked about his statement, General Secretary of Nationalist Teachers' Forum SM Nachrul Qadir said, 'If there is anyone who believes in nationalism, then why is Jamaat's leadership being led by it (white party)? They have not made any statement or program for Begum Zia or BNP in the last decade.
That's why they left the Sada party, SM Nahrul Qadir said, 'Nationalist Teachers' Forum believes in progress. Ours is not a cadre-based organization. There is no crisis in our party. Jamaat was banned some time ago. Since this crisis, they are using the name of nationalism.'
Professor Shamim Uddin Khan said about the recommendation to appoint a vice-chancellor from the white party, “One person from our party has been asked to try for the post of vice-chancellor.” The party thought we should have only one candidate. Only one will try.'
Professor Shamim Uddin Khan said, “No such process will be followed.” This will be communicated to the government through the media. Do not try separately. The government will accept the decision.'
