BNP leader Aslam Chowdhury released from prison after 9 years

Former convener of Chittagong North District BNP, recently former Joint Secretary General of BNP Central Executive Committee was released after 9 years of imprisonment. Aslam Chowdhury.

He was released from Chittagong Central Jail around 10 am on Tuesday (August 20). Earlier on Monday, he got bail from the High Court.

Senior Jail Superintendent of Chittagong Central Jail Muhammad Manjur Hossain confirmed the release of Aslam Chowdhury.

Meanwhile, when Aslam Chowdhury came out of the prison, hundreds of BNP leaders welcomed him at the prison gate. At this time he addressed the leaders and activists. Later, a convoy took him to his native village Sitakunda upazila.

On the evening of May 15, 2016, Aslam Chowdhury and his personal assistant Md. Asaduzzaman Mia was arrested by Metropolitan Detective Police (DB-North). Later they were taken to the DB office for questioning. The next day, on May 16, an application was made to remand the two of them for 10 days showing their arrest under section 54 (suspicion of conspiracy to overthrow the government in Mossad connection). The court granted remand for seven days. After receiving the permission of the Home Ministry, a case of sedition was filed against Aslam Chowdhury at Gulshan police station on May 26 of the same year.

It is said in the case of treason on suspicion of conspiracy to overthrow the government, Aslam Chowdhury met Mendi N Safadi, an agent of Mossad, an intelligence agency of Israel, a country outside Bangladesh's diplomatic relations, during his stay in India from March 5 to March 9 of that year to overthrow the legally established government of Bangladesh. As part of this conspiracy, the accused undertook to create terror, sabotage and hatred in the country to illegally overthrow the government, which is a threat to the integrity, independence and sovereignty of the country and amounts to treason. Later, Aslam Chowdhury got bail from the High Court in that case, but he was arrested in various cases.
