In the first phase, 35 candidates have been validated in Bogra's three Upazila Parishad elections. Among them, there are 11 on the post of chairman, 13 on the post of vice-chairman and 11 on the post of women vice-chairman.
On Wednesday (April 17) afternoon, candidate verification was completed at Bogra District Senior Election Office. Later District Senior Election Officer and Returning Officer Mahmud Hasan said this. Earlier, a total of 36 people had withdrawn their nomination papers for the three posts last Monday. One's candidature is cancelled.
Election office sources said that in the first phase, voting will be held in 152 upazilas on May 8. Voting will be held in three of Bogra's 12 upazilas in this phase. The upazilas are Gabtali, Sonatala and Sariakandi.
In Gabtali upazila, 5 people nominated for the post of chairman. Abdullahel Baki's candidature was canceled on scrutiny. He is the vice president of Gabtali Upazila Jubo League and a member of Zilla Parishad. Abdullah Hale Baki was nominated for the Upazila Parishad election without resigning from the remaining Zilla Parishad membership. Election office said that his candidature was canceled for this reason.
The remaining four valid candidates are – member of Bangladesh Awami League's sub-committee on forest and environment, agriculturist Arun Kanti Roy Sitton, Ataur Rahman, Bogra Municipal Awami League president and current chairman Rafi Newaz Khan Robin and Md. Sahanur Islam Sakil.
Candidates for the position of vice chairman in this upazila, current vice chairman Md. Aminul Islam, Abdul Majeed, Ahsan Habib and Delwar Hossain. The list of valid candidates for the post of women vice-chairman is Nazma Akhtar, Papia Begum, Ferdousi Begum, Rexena Akhtar and Shamima Akhtar.
Sariakandi upazila parishad elections took 5 nominations for the post of chairman. All have been validated. They are Abdus Salam, Ashiq Ahmed, current chairman Rezaul Karim Montu, Shahjahan Ali and Mohammad Sakhawat Hossain.
There are 7 persons in the list of valid candidates for the post of Vice Chairman. They are Ayen Uddin, Yunus Ali, Tofazzal Hossain, Rakibul Hasan, Likhan Mia, Saifuzzaman and Sakhawat Hossain Chako.
In this upazila, the position of women vice chairman has been deleted. Kulchuma Parveen and Mocha. Shahinur Begum's candidature has been validated.
2 people have been legally nominated for the post of chairman in Sonatala upazila. They are – Md. Zakir Hossain and current chairman Advocate Minhaduzzaman Leeton.
Enamul Haque Mondal and Md. as vice chairman. Two candidates named Fida Hasan were validly nominated. All 4 candidates have been validated for the post of women vice chairman. They are – Kuheli Chakraborty, deleted. Isharat Akhtar, deleted. Washia Begum and Mocha. Jannatul Ferdowsi.
District Senior Election Officer and Returning Officer Mahmud Hasan said that a total of 36 people had collected nomination papers for three positions. As the candidature of one person was cancelled, 35 candidates became valid. Last date for cancellation of candidature is 22 April. All will contest as independent candidates in this election. There will be no party symbols.
