BPL's delayed surprise 'Diamond Trophy', priced at $25,000

If it is said that the twelfth season of BPL has started empty handed; So what would be so wrong? Not supposed to be. The multi-crore tournament started but there was no official photo session, no captain's meet before the tournament.

There was some color in the inaugural BPL, which began on December 26. But nothing was seen for publicity and promotion. It seemed that the organizers were not even prepared.

While the harsh criticism was coming from all sides, the BPL Governing Council came up with a surprise. Although they said late, the expensive trophy is being made through an organization in Dubai. BCB will get the prized trophy in the middle of the tournament.

According to the Governing Council, the interesting thing is that this is the first time that the diamond encrusted trophy is coming for the BPL. And BCB has to pay 25 thousand dollars for the trophy, which is more than 3 million taka in Bangladeshi taka. Along with that, shipping cost and customs are costing more than 5 lakh rupees.

BCB Vice President and BPL Governing Council Member Sakhawat Hossain said, “The previous trophy has been going on for a long time. We want to change. This is excellent trophy. We are bringing two trophies. I will give one (to the champion team), keep the other for BCB.”

“The trophy that was there before was a very traditional trophy. It was replaced by a new trophy, but not up to the mark. That's why the trophy is being changed again. It will come to us very soon.” He added.

Amjad Hossain, BCB director and head of the media committee of the board, has also revealed the price of the trophy. He said, “The trophy ordered for BPL is a diamond studded trophy. The price is 25 thousand US dollars. We are a little late in getting it. But you will like the trophy.”

The new season of BPL was inaugurated by spreading colors and blowing balloons. A minute's silence was observed for martyr Sharif Osman Hadi before the inauguration. National Anthem is sung after recitation from Holy Quran. Colorful cultural programs are also held on the first day.
