During Clark’s 28th game of the season on Sunday against the Seattle Storm, she broke not one but two rookie records. Clark is now the all-time leader in assists in a season for a rookie with 225 assists.
Clark finished Sunday’s contest with 23 points, five rebounds, and nine assists as they picked up an impressive win over the Strom.
The rookie guard recorded her 225 assists, surpassing the previous record holder, women’s basketball Hall of Fame guard Ticha Penicheiro, who did so over 25 years ago in 1998. Penicheiro congratulated Clark for surpassing her long-time record.
“This record is in great hands.”

“Hey Caitlin, Ticha here. Congratulations. A record that stood since 1998 and you come in here and you break it,” Penicheiro said. “Super proud of you. I know the work that you put in. A lot of people always talked about your shooting, I was always mesmerized by your passing, your court vision and how you make your teammates better. So this record is in great hands. Continue to do what you do, continue to elevate your game, and the women’s game and the WNBA. Congratulations, super proud of you.”
In her rookie season, Clark is among the best passers in the WNBA. Although she came into the league known for her scoring and shooting ability, her passing has really caught those by surprise. She is throwing dimes at her teammates, and it’s been a treat to witness.

The No. 1 overall pick is doing it all for the Fever. Clark is averaging 8.3 assists per game, and she’s been getting more and more comfortable with her passing at the professional level.
Clark also broke another record by passing Tamika Catchings to set a new franchise record for three-pointers made by a rookie, with 77.

Catchings is a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame and has an unmatched resume. She has done it all in her career, and so far, Clark is on a Hall of Fame trajectory.
Clark is just a rookie, but she has transcended the women’s game, and her numbers speak for themselves. Thus far, she is averaging 17.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 8.3 assists.
Among rookies, Clark is first in scoring and assists. After a choppy start to her career, she has claimed a spot for the title of best point guard in the league after only 28 games.
