A case has been filed against former state relief minister Mohibur Rahman and names of 51 Awami League leaders including the upazila chairman and municipal mayor in connection with the beating and vandalism of the office of BNP leaders and activists in Patuakhali's Kalapara. Besides, 100 unidentified people have been accused in the case.
Kalapara Upazila BNP joint general secretary Shafikur Rahman Biswas filed the case at Kalapara police station on Sunday (August 18) night.
In the case, he mentioned that the accused entered the BNP office around 8 pm on August 30 last year and beat the activists. At this time, office chair-table and furniture were vandalized. Also on that day, on the orders of 5 persons including the former state minister for relief, the accused detonated bombs and cocktails and looted the BNP office's TV and fans. It caused a loss of 5 lakh 60 thousand rupees. After informing the police station, the police visited the spot. But when they tried to take legal action at that time, the administration could not take legal action due to the power and influence of the accused.
Kalapara Police Station OC Investigation Mostafizur Rahman said that the case has been registered. The investigation into the incident is continuing.
