A case has been filed against ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury and his son Faraz Karim Chowdhury, former Member of Parliament of Raujan, Chittagong. On Friday (August 23), Muniriya Youth Tabligh Committee, Bangladesh's Dalinagar-Nawazishpur branch organizing secretary Muhammad Alauddin filed the case at Raujan police station as the plaintiff.
Fazle Karim Chowdhury is a five-time Member of Parliament from Raujan. He was the Vice President of Chittagong North District Awami League. His son Faraz Karim Chowdhury is a member of Upazila Awami League.
In the case, the former mayor of Raujan municipality Zamir Uddin Parvez, the former chairman of the upazila parishad AKM Ehsanul Haider Chowdhury, the former chairman of Gahira UP Nurul Absar, the councilor of the municipality Kazi Md. Iqbal, Bashir Uddin Khan, Municipal Branch Awami League President Nazrul Islam Chowdhury and Upazila Awami League Vice President Shahajan Iqbal were named as a total of 43 people. Apart from this, 25 unidentified persons have been accused in the case.
It is mentioned in the statement of the case that on April 30, 2019, on the orders of Fazle Karim, the accused demolished the office of the spiritual and tariqat-based organization Muniriya Juba Tabligh Committee in a paved one-story building and tried to kill the members of the committee. During this time, all equipment including 6 lakh cash was looted from the office. Since this incident, members of the organization have not been allowed to stay in the area.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Raujan Police Station Zahid Hossain said that the investigation of the case has started. Efforts are underway to arrest the accused.
