CEC handed over resignation letter to EC Secretary

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal signed the resignation letter under the changed circumstances and handed it over to Election Commission (EC) Secretary Shafiul Awal. He resigned on Thursday (September 5) in the presence of the media in the meeting room of the election building.

This time the election commissioner said. Alamgir and Md. Ahsan Habib Khan was with. However, other election commissioner Begum Rasheda Sultana and Md. Anishur Rahman was present.

As per law, the Election Commissioner is constituted with CEC and EC Secretary. There are five members of the commission.

Kazi Habibul Awal Commission took charge on February 27, 2022. For the first time this commission was appointed by law. After the change of government, the EC resigned like other authorities of the state.

According to the constitution, there is an obligation to hold general elections within ninety days after the dissolution of parliament. In this case, there is a provision to punish the EC with death penalty if it does not hold a vote. Since there is currently a caretaker government and no plans for elections, EC officials believe the commission has resigned because the constitution has effectively been suspended undeclared.
