CEC's emergency press conference on Thursday, rumors of resignation

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal suddenly called an emergency press conference amid rumors of resignation.

He will hold this press conference tomorrow Thursday at 12 noon.

He said this while leaving the election building in Agargaon in the capital on Wednesday (September 4).

At this time, journalists want to know from CEC, are you resigning or not? In response, CEC said, 'I will not say anything about this now. Tomorrow (Thursday) at 12 o'clock in the press conference will tell the details.

When asked whether the President said anything, CEC Awal said, 'He (the President) asked to meet.'

It is known that the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal and four commissioners is now a matter of time. They are also making all kinds of preparations for resignation. They can resign by sending a letter to the President on Thursday. CEC wants to hold a press conference before resigning. For this purpose, he himself prepared a draft of a written speech. However, other election commissioners are not in favor of the press conference. They told CEC that they will not participate in the press conference. They do not want to be in an embarrassing situation at the press conference.

Incidentally, former senior secretary Kazi Habibul Awal was appointed as CEC on February 26, 2022. Other members of the commission are retired District and Sessions Judge Begum Rashida Sultana, retired Brigadier General Ahsan Habib Khan, retired Senior Secretary Md. Alamgir and retired senior secretary Anichur Rahman.

The 12th National Assembly elections were held under this commission. This election was boycotted by BNP and their like-minded political parties. Awami League led by Sheikh Hasina formed the government for the fourth consecutive time after the polls.
