A college student drowned in the Durga Sagar during Punya Sannotsava at Madhavpasha in Babugonj, Barisal. Mandeep Mandal (18), son of Sagar Mandal of Oxford Mission Road area of Barisal city, died at around 12:30 on Tuesday. He was studying HSC in Govt Syed Hatim Al College.
The deceased's father said that all the family went to Durgasagar from their house in the city for the purpose of bathing. Around 12 o'clock his son went down to take a bath and was drowning. At this time other devotees quickly rescued him and brought him to the Ghatla of Durgasagar. From there, the doctor declared him dead when he was brought to the emergency department of Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital.
The constable of Kotwali Model Police Station in charge of medical. Hemayet said, when a young man was brought from Durgasagar, the emergency department doctor declared him dead. The father who was with the deceased said that his son drowned while taking a holy bath in Durgasagar.

Hindu devotees from different places come here every year to bathe in this Durga Sagar on the eighth tithi of the month of Chaitra, hoping to get rid of their sins. Hindu pilgrims surrender to the feet of Goddess Ganga and bathe in the desire to get rid of sins through various arrangements including worship, worship and prayer.
