Commanders Not Out Of The Running For 49ers Star Brandon Aiyuk: Report

One of the more fascinating storylines from the NFL season has been the trade rumors involving San Francisco 49ers star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. Aiyuk has been dealing with a contract dispute for the majority of the summer, believing he is worth a lucrative new deal.

Since San Francisco has been unwilling to give him the contract that he wants, Aiyuk has been placed in different trade talks. He asked for a trade a while back and has been rumored to be a target of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

At one point, it seemed likely that Aiyuk would end up in Pittsburgh but that talk has faded a little. There were some encouraging signs coming from the 49ers regarding an extension with Aiyuk but nothing has materialized.

Now, there has been another twist to this story.

According to Mike Silver, while talking on KNBR, the Aiyuk trade story has taken another turn. Silver said that he wouldn’t rule out Aiyuk being traded to the Washington Commanders.

“My updated information is that everything is still on the table, including all the trades you’ve heard about… That Steelers scenario… I wouldn’t rule out Washington,” Silver said on KNBR.

The Commanders have been the other team across the NFL that has been linked most heavily to Aiyuk. He would give them another strong weapon on offense for rookie quarterback Jaylen Daniels to work with.

Washington just traded wide receiver Johan Dotson to the Philadelphia Eagles, freeing up space in the receiver room. While the trade of Dotson likely isn’t connected to anything with Aiyuk, the timing is interesting.

The Commanders are in a position to make a move for Aiyuk if the 49ers are willing to play ball. They could offer him a nice contract while also sending San Francisco back a wide receiver.

Washington could part ways with someone like Dyami Brown or Jamison Crowder to land Aiyuk. This would be in addition to draft capital heading to the 49ers for the star wideout.

Pairing Aiyuk with Terry McLaurin could help fastrack the Commanders’ winning window. Aiyuk has gotten better each season that he has been in the NFL, posting 75 catches for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns last season.

It remains to be seen if the Commanders are able to land Aiyuk but this story doesn’t seem to be going away. If Washington is serious about winning, going all-in to land the star wide receiver could heavily benefit them.
