Incessant rains and landslides have caused floods in various districts of Bangladesh. According to local residents from various affected districts, people are living inhumane conditions. Many people's belongings have been washed away by the flood water. The most affected district is Feni. Communication with Feni has been virtually cut off for the past three days.
According to the government, a total of 11 districts in Bangladesh are affected by floods. Many people of Feni district bordering India are spending their days in worry and anxiety.
The people of this district are staying in other parts of the country and abroad. They do not know what is the condition of their family members and relatives living in the village. The anxiety is increasing due to lack of communication.
No contact with Feni:
Despite several attempts by BBC Bengal, it was not possible to contact Feni residents and local journalists. This situation is created due to lack of mobile phone network. All their mobile phones were found switched off.

Ainul Islam of Feni district is staying in the European country Belgium for two years to study. His family and loved ones can be contacted through mobile telephone or internet-based various apps. But for two days in flood-hit Feni, unable to talk to his relatives, he is spending days in worry.
On Friday afternoon, Ainul Islam told BBC Bangla that the communication with the parents has stopped, they are not able to communicate with the uncle's house.
Saiful Hasan, a Dubai expatriate from Ceylonia area of Feni, is also spending his days with similar worries. He pleaded for rescue for his family in a video message on Facebook early Friday morning. “My wife, children, father, mother…all are dying due to lack of food,” he said in tears.
Finally talked to Hannan Muhammad Chowdhury, he is a volunteer. He rushed from Chittagong last night to help the flood victims of Feni. But despite many efforts, he could not reach Feni. Somehow Fenir went to Lalpur. Later, he was forced to return around 11 pm. He took shelter at night in a shelter near the Dhaka-Chittagong highway.
What did he see in Lalpur of Feni? When asked, he said, “Masaka's condition is there. When I went yesterday, there was a lot of water flow. I had to come back later.
According to the Bangladesh News Agency (BASS) report, three lakh people have been affected by floods in the district so far and 20,000 people have been rescued and kept in various shelters.

Distress in Noakhali:
Local residents say that the sun has risen today after eight days in Noakhali. The local journalist Hasib Al-Amin said, “At sunrise, the environment is more normal than before. The water is receding, but the float is slow.” He said, “The water from Feni will go down to Meghna river and sea through Noakhali, it will take time.”
He said, the water has to go down through the sluice gate. But during high tide water tries to enter from the opposite side so the sluice gate is closed. Water has started falling since morning. The gate closes at 12 noon. When the tide goes down, the gate will be opened again, then the water will go down again.
According to him, there was no such flood in Noakhali in the last 20-24 years. It also withstood the floods of 2004/1998. “Earlier Feni water did not come directly to Maizdi.” He said, Noakhali's Companiganj, Begumganj, Senbagh has been flooded by Muhuri river. Noakhali is a riverine area, it is easy to get water down the coast. But how will the water go down? Due to encroachment, the way down the water is blocked. So flooding has taken the form of flooding.' He said, except Hatia of Noakhali, all the remaining upazilas have been separated now.
More than 20 lakh people are now waterlogged and 87 unions have been affected in the whole of Noakhali.
502 shelters have been opened there in the ongoing situation. He also said that lakhs of people and 15-20 thousand cattle are still sheltered in shelters. Besides, 88 medical teams are working there to serve the people.
Condition of Phatikchari:
Phatikchari is an upazila of Chittagong district, near Feni district. Speaking to Chittagong local journalist Shyamal Nandi, he described the situation there as “terrible”.
“Haldar dam, Baromasia canal — both have broken,” he said, noting that his own house is now knee-deep in water. So far, 18 of the 21 unions in Phatikchari have water.” He said that the water has been receding since 9 am on Friday, but “little by little”.
The streets of Phatikchari villages are still waist-deep in water. But it is hopeful that it has not rained here since last night, local residents say that if it had rained, the situation would have been worse.
Shyamal Nandir has not yet heard the news of any death in this upazila. Not many people could take shelter in the shelters that were opened for the flood.
As the reason, he said, “For example, if we go from here… there is a canal in the middle. But since we didn't have a boat, there was no chance to go to the shelter.” He also said that he had never seen such a terrible flood in his lifetime. Not even his father. The people of Phatikchari are almost starving now and the villages there have not yet received relief.
Status of Banvasis in Comilla:
Due to the torrential rain coming down from India and several days of continuous rain, the defense dam of the northern part of the Gomti river broke at Burichong in Comilla yesterday at 12:15 pm.

“Around 12:00 p.m., the dam broke like a whirlwind. First broken 10 feet, now close to 50 feet. It is a dam on the northern side of the river Gomti. When the dam in the southern region breaks, the city, headquarters, cantonment all fall”, said local journalist Masuk Kamal.
15 villages of Burichong upazila are still submerged. But due to the breach of the dam and lack of rain in Comilla and Tripura, the water is slowly receding. “The water will decrease as soon as it reaches Meghna.”
Not all people in this area could go to the shelter. Because “there is no environment to go to the shelter.”
He said, “Most of the people are still staying in the embankment, in the two-storied houses there. Was here all night yesterday.”
Quoting the Water Development Board, he said, this year, the water in Burichong area has flowed 137 cm above the danger level. Earlier in 1997, it rose up to 96 cm. Apart from Burichong, Manoharganj, Nangalkot, Chaudhagram upazilas in the southern part of Comilla are also flooded for two days. “Muhuri River, Feni River are associated with the area. Two lakh people are trapped there.”
Many people are stuck in water in Brahmanbaria:
Brahmanbaria district next to Comilla is also affected by floods. The severity of this flood can be understood in the words of Sajjad Master, a resident of Nayadil village of Akhaura in Brahmanbaria district. He said, “There is no time to take anything from the house after the water comes. He just took the mobile phone, that's all.”
Yar Hossain, a resident of the same area, told BBC that he had not seen so much water in his area in the last 20 years. He commented, “After 2004, the flood water did not come this way.”

ist Masuk Hriday of Brahmanbaria said that the road communication between Kasba Upazila and Akhaura has been closed due to the collapse of another part of a bridge in Akhaura Upazila of Brahmanbaria. In Akhaura, around 100 families are still in shelters and 500 families are under water. A bridge in Devgram area of Akhaura municipal town is also under threat. If it collapses, the communication system of Devgram residents will be totally disabled. Besides, some areas there are now going through complete powerlessness.
People are in shelters in Khagrachari:
Local journalist Abu Daud said that even though there was a flood in Khagrachari district, it did not last long and the flood situation in Khagrachari district headquarters has improved due to lack of rain.
On Friday afternoon, he said, “Floods come and go suddenly in Khagrachari. Water was coming yesterday night. The water has receded this morning. Those who were in shelters have also come down.”
However, 8-10 thousand people in Dighinala area of Khagrachari are still in shelters, he said. “It takes some time for the waters of Dighinala to recede…Several areas of Merung Union are submerged.”
Apart from Merung, several low-lying villages in Kabakhali and Boalkhali Unions are also still flooded. Besides, Baghaichari and Longdur road communication with Khagrachari is closed due to lack of water from the road.
Mentioning that Khagrachari had flooded three times in the month of August, he said, “In other years, this flood is more or less, this time it is more. It has happened three times this August alone.”
Army, administration and various organizations have provided relief assistance to the affected areas. A total of 400 metric tons of food crops have been allocated there for the flood victims.
The water of Khoai river is slowly decreasing:
Pradeep Dash Sagar, a local journalist of Sylhet Division, said that the water in Khowai River is decreasing little by little.
The flood affected upazilas of this district are – Chunarughat, Madhavpur, Shaistaganj, Habiganj Sadar and Nabiganj. “Approximately 33,000 people are still stuck in water” in these areas. The water in those upazilas has started decreasing since last night. But even in this case “speed is very low.
As there is no rain, the water is slowly decreasing. If it rains, there will be danger again.”
“At Machulia Point in Habiganj city at 6 pm yesterday, water was flowing above the danger level by 181 cm. Today at 12 noon it is 165 cm.”
However, he did not get any information that there was any loss of life in Habiganj due to the flood or that anyone went missing.
It should be noted that 15 people have died in floods in 11 districts of the South-Eastern and North-Eastern regions of the country so far, according to the Disaster and Relief Ministry. The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has given this information in a message about the overall flood situation after Friday evening. Source: BBC.
