Speaker of the National Parliament. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury said that the constitution is the supreme law for the governance of the state. The constitution of Bangladesh is a document soaked in the blood of millions of martyrs. Constitutional democracy is the ideal form of governance for running a state. Parliamentary governance is the highest symbol of democracy.
He said this while addressing the chief guest at the 'International Conference on Judiciary Across the Borders' organized by the Supreme Court of Bangladesh at the Supreme Court Auditorium in the capital Dhaka on Saturday (June 8).
The Speaker said that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, it has been possible to establish the rule of law in Bangladesh. The constitutional framework is strengthened through the practice of human rights in democratic governance as the principle of state management.
He said that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman engaged himself in drafting a constitution for an independent country immediately after his release from Pakistan prison. In just 9 months he formulated a complete constitution to govern the state which came into effect from 16 December 1972.
He also said that the judiciary is one of the three organs of the state. Maintaining a balance between judicial independence and judicial accountability is crucial to meet the challenges of the 21st century through uninterrupted democratic governance.
