Cowboys News: Jerry Jones Expects Dak Prescott to Get Better in Second Half of Career

One of the more interesting relationships around the NFL is that of Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and owner Jerry Jones. The two men have a respect for one another but they both tend to not see eye-to-eye at times.

Prescott has been looking for a brand new contract from the Cowboys this offseason but Dallas hasn’t reciprocated to this point. It has led many to believe that Prescott could be playing his final year in Dallas.

However, Jones recently sat down with ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith for an interview and discussed Prescott. Within their chat, Jones mentioned that he believes the Dallas quarterback is the type of player that will age well as he enters the second half of his career.

“What he is as a person and as a quarterback will age well,” Jones said. “I think it will age well as he moves into the next five-or-ten years of his life. I think he’s the kind of quarterback that gets better and better.”

These are interesting comments coming from Jones, especially since Prescott doesn’t have a new extension in place. If Jones sees him as someone who will get better as he ages, it would make sense for Dallas to come to terms on an agreement sooner rather than later.

Jones has never been one to shy away from how he feels on a subject, becoming one of the more controversial sports owners in recent times. He consistently speaks to the media about matters that likely should stay in-house but it has become his style over time.

Recently, Prescott took a shot at Jones, saying that he doesn’t listen to what he says to the media any longer. This came after Jones made some comments about Prescott’s contract situation.

“I stopped, honestly, listening to things (Jerry Jones) says to the media a long time ago,” Prescott said to reporters. “It doesn’t really hold weight with me.”

Being the quarterback for the Cowboys isn’t easy and Prescott has done better than many before him. He is seen as one of the better signal-callers in the NFL, throwing for 4,516 yards and 36 touchdowns last season.

Prescott has yet to see much playoff success with Dallas, going 2-5 so far, but there is still plenty of time for that record to improve. And if Jones is correct in his statement about Prescott, the veteran quarterback still has a lot left to accomplish before he hands up his cleats.
