Crime against humanity: Chankharpool 6 murder case verdict today

The verdict in the case of crimes against humanity committed in the capital's Chankhanharpul area during the July uprising will be announced on Monday. In this case, there are eight accused including former Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Habibur Rahman. Among them, four accused including Habibur are absconding.

A second case related to the crimes against humanity committed during the July uprising is going to be judged today.

Earlier, the first verdict came from the tribunal on November 17 last year. In that verdict, deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan were sentenced to death. Another accused in the case, former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, was sentenced to five years in prison. Former IGP Mamun confessed his crime and became a witness in the case.

International Criminal Tribunal-1 will announce the verdict of the case of crimes against humanity committed in Chankhanarpool area. Justice Md. The other two members of this three-member tribunal headed by Golam Mortuza Majumdar are Justice Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmud and Judge Md. Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury. The verdict in the first case also came from this tribunal.

Shahriar Khan Anas, Sheikh Mahdi Hasan Junayed, Md. were martyred in Chankharpul area on the day of the fall of the Awami League government in the mass coup (August 5, 2024). Yakub, Md. Rakib Howlader, Md. Ismamul Haque and Manik Mia Shahrik.

Out of the eight accused in this case, four absconding are former commissioner of DMP Habibur Rahman, former joint commissioner Sudip Kumar Chakraborty, former additional deputy commissioner of Ramna region Shah Alam. Akhtarul Islam and former assistant commissioner of Ramna region Mohammad Imrul.

Former inspector of Shahbag police station is in jail after being arrested in this case. Arshad Hossain, former constable. Sujan Hossain, Imaz Hossain and Md. Nasirul Islam.

The verdict in this case was to be announced on January 20. However, the verdict was not announced that day. The new date for the verdict is set for January 26.
