Awami League activist Delwar Hossain (45) who was severely beaten after being abducted in Natore, is in critical condition. He was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of Rajshahi Medical College (RAMEC) Hospital. Delwar remained unconscious in Ward 8 of the hospital till 10.30 pm on Monday (April 15), before being admitted to the ICU.
Delwar Hossain's house is in Parsha village of Kalam union in Singra upazila of Natore. He wanted to be the chairman candidate in the upcoming upazila council elections. He was abducted from the main gate when he went to submit the copy of the nomination paper at the Natore District Election Officer's office on Monday, the last day of filing the nomination papers.

Earlier in the morning, his elder brother and pen union Awami League joint general secretary Emdadul Haque and general secretary Alauddin Munsi were picked up from the same place. They went to the election officer's office to know the code number to deposit the security money in the bank. Later in the morning these two were released. And after severe beating, Delwar Hossain was sent home in a microbus in the afternoon.

Relatives of candidate Lutful Habib Rubel, who filed nomination papers for the post of chairman in the Singra Upazila Parishad elections, and his staff have claimed that they were involved in the abduction. Only Lutful Habib filed nomination papers to participate in the election. Despite being abducted, Delwar also filed his nomination form online.
Delwar Hossain was brought to the hospital by his younger brother Emdadul Haque and cousin Aser Uddin. They said, after being picked up and severely beaten, Delwar was sent home in a microbus. Later he was brought to Ramek Hospital in that microbus. Rival candidate Lutful Habib Rubel also had his workers involved in the abduction.
Accused Lutful Habib Rubel denied involvement in the abduction.
Brigadier General AFM Shamim Ahmed, director of Ramek Hospital, said Delwar was brought to the hospital's emergency department at 8 p.m. Then he was sent to ward number 8. Seeing his physical condition very bad there, the doctors shifted him to ICU. Serial was 12 in ICU. He gave Delwar an ICU bed under him. They are working to ensure the highest level of treatment for Delwar.
