Customs Termination of US India in Customs Conflict, Trade Discussion – Bangladesh Diplomat

As part of a discussion on bilateral trade agreements, the US trade delegation was scheduled to visit New Delhi in August, but the visit was canceled at the last minute.

According to a report by India's influential media on Saturday (August 8th), the visit from August 25 to August 25 was postponed. However, sources said the tour is likely to be held on a new date later.

The ongoing tariff issue between the United States and India has become the main obstacle to the discussion. In particular, US President Donald Trump announced the imposition of an additional 20 percent tariff on Indian products for importing oil from Russia. Earlier, another 20 percent tariff was imposed.

This year's visit was considered important in such context. Because the new tariff is expected to be effective from August 25 and preparations were underway to make a final deal in September-October.

The NDTV said the sixth round of talks on the bilateral trade agreement between the United States and India were expected to be held on the scheduled visit.

One of the main obstacles of the agreement is the pressure of US access to Indian agriculture and dairy sectors. However, India has made it clear that the life of the marginal farmers of the country will be threatened if the exemption is given in this sector. Besides, religious and cultural issues are also considered in the import of dairy products.

In response to US tariff pressure, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the use of 'Swadeshi' products and protecting the interests of farmers fishermen.

A meeting was recently held in Alaska between US President Trump and Russian President Putin. It was thought that if some positive progress made it could reduce the pressure on India somewhat reduce. However, that hope is grown.

The US Finance Minister Scott Besent has already warned that more strict tariffs on India may be imposed on India if oil imports continue. In an interview to Bloomberg TV, he said, “We have already imposed secondary tariffs. If the discussion is not fruitful, more disciplinary action will be taken in the future.”
