Death of UP Chairman shot dead


Bilaichari UP Chairman Atumong Marma (51) was under treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital after being injured in the terrorist attack on the day of the upazila election in Rangamati. He died around twelve o'clock on Thursday night.

Birottam Tangchangya, Chairman of Bilaichari Upazila Parishad, confirmed the matter.

He said that Atumong Marma was undergoing treatment in Chittagong after being shot and injured on the night of the second phase of elections on May 21. (Thursday) night ward members and relatives who were with him called to say that he had passed away.

Earlier on Tuesday (21 May) at 11:30 pm, Atumong was shot dead in Baratholi neighborhood of Bilaichhari upazila of Rangamati. At that time, Baratholi union chairman was having dinner in a house in Baratholi neighborhood. Later he was rescued and taken to the local army camp where he was given first aid and the next day (Wednesday) he was taken to Ruma Sadar Hospital in Bhorebandarban district.

Resident doctor of Ruma Upazila Health Complex. Rubel said that the patient was hit by two bullets. The bullet went in and out of him. But the bullet is stuck in the thigh. After giving first aid, Atumong chairman who was shot was sent to Chittagong Medical College for advanced treatment.

After this incident, Bilaichari Police ASP Md. Abul Kashem Chowdhury said that he spoke with the chairman of Atumong who was shot. There will be a case after returning from treatment. The reason for this incident will be known after investigation.
