Death toll rises to 12 in Cyclone Remal


A total of 12 people have died so far, including two others in six districts due to the fierce cyclone Remal. These districts are: Khulna, Satkhira, Barisal, Patuakhali, Bhola and Chittagong.

From Sunday (May 26) to Monday (May 27) evening, the 12 deaths were reported. Cyclone Remal ravaged coastal areas. Houses were destroyed in the township. Village after village has been submerged by the 5 to 6 feet flood. Uprooted trees have blocked communication in various districts. Many areas have been cut off.

During the storm, her husband and little grandson were able to get out, but Maneja was trapped under the house. Later neighbors went and recovered his body.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daulatkhan Police Station Satya Ranjan Khaskel said that a person named Maisa died after the house was buried in the storm in Daulatkhan Upazila. Chairman of Surkhali UP SK Zakir Hossain said, Lalchand was sleeping in his house on the night of the storm. There was a big tree near the house. The condition of the house was not very good. In the storm, the tree uprooted and fell on the house. On Monday morning people went and cut the tree and rescued him dead. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Nazmul Hussain Khan said, Lal Chand Moral stayed at the shelter at night. He returned home later that night. He died after getting hit by a tree.

Barisal: Three people died in the district after walls collapsed and tree branches fell due to Cyclone Remal.

Barisal Deputy Commissioner Shahidul Islam said that on Sunday (May 26) night and Monday (May 27) two people died after a wall collapsed in Rupatali of Barisal Nagar and one died after a tree branch fell in Bakerganj Upazila.

According to police, Lokman (55), the owner of Lokman Hotel, and Moksudul died when the 4th floor wall of a building on the south side of Lily Pump collapsed due to the ongoing cyclone from Sunday. At this time, a young man named Shakib (20) was injured. He is undergoing treatment in the Orthopedics Ward at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, Barisal. Meanwhile, another person died in Bakerganj upazila after a tree branch fell.

On the other hand, many trees were uprooted in the entire Barisal division due to strong cyclone Rimal. Many people are trapped in water in cities and villages. Crop lands, roads are under water. Also, electricity has been cut since midnight.

Satkhira: An old man named Shaukat Moral (70) died on his way to Napitkhali Shelter in Gabura Union of Shyamnagar Upazila. This incident happened on Sunday evening.

The nephew of the deceased, Nur Mohammad, said that since the afternoon, people panicked when there was a strong storm and storm in the river. Uncle Shaukat Moral took his wife with clothes to go to the Napitkhali Government Primary School shelter. He fell and died while crossing the embankment from his house. The body is now at home.

Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge of Shyamnagar police station, said, “I heard that an old man died while going to the shelter.”

Patuakhali: In Kalapara, while protecting brother and sister from Cyclone Remal, Md. A young man named Sharif (24) has died. The incident took place on Sunday (May 26) at noon in Kawarchar area of ​​Dhulasar Union.

Meanwhile, old Zainal Howladar died after a tree fell on his house in Naldoani village of Dumki. Besides, another old man named Karim died after a tree fell on his abandoned house in Baufal's Nazirpur.

According to police and local sources, Sharif's cousin Matwara Begum lives in Kawarchar area. His sister was also in that house. Around 1 pm, Sharif went from Anantapara with his elder brother and Puppa to rescue his sister and Puppu. At that time, Kawarchar area was flooded with 5 to 7 feet of sea water. When they swam to Fupu's house, Sharif got lost in the waves of the sea. After an hour, the local people recovered Sharif's body from that place.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mahipur Police Station Anwar Hossain Talukder said that police have been sent to the spot. Further necessary action is being taken.

Chittagong: A pedestrian named Saiful Islam Hriday (26) died when the wall of an under-construction building collapsed in the city under the influence of Cyclone Remal. The incident took place in the ZA residential area of ​​Chandranagar Taltala of Bayezid Bostami in the city on Monday (May 27) morning.

Bayezid Bostami Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sanjay Kumar Sinha said that while going to work in the morning, the wall of the under-construction building in Bayezid Tara Gate area collapsed and fell on the young man. He died on the spot. The building was being constructed for a madrasa. The wall fell loose due to heavy rains caused by Cyclone Remal. Legal action is being taken in this incident.
