Deaths in 11 districts increased to 54 due to floods


The death toll has risen to 54 in 11 districts due to ongoing floods in the country. The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief informed this information in a circular on Friday (August 30).

The notification of the ministry, highlighting the updated information on the flood situation, said that 64 upazilas of flood-affected Feni, Comilla, Chittagong, Khagrachari, Noakhali, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Sylhet, Lakshipur and Cox's Bazar were flooded and 486 affected unions or municipalities. According to today's information received from Sylhet, Habiganj and Chittagong districts, the overall flood situation has improved.

Among the 54 people who died in the flood, 41 were men, 6 were women and 7 were children. Among them, 14 died in Comilla, 19 in Feni, 6 in Chittagong, 1 in Khagrachari, 8 in Noakhali, 1 in Brahmanbaria, 1 in Lakshipur, 3 in Cox's Bazar and 1 in Moulvibazar. Besides, one person is missing in Moulvibazar.

The notification also said that a total of 3,269 shelters have been opened for the shelter of water-logged or affected people and a total of 4,69,687 people have been sheltered in the shelters. Besides, 38 thousand 192 cattle have been kept.

Meanwhile, a total of 567 medical teams are operational to provide medical services to the victims of 11 districts.
