District A. Case in the name of 106 people including the president-editor of the league

A case has been registered against 106 people, including the president and general secretary of the district Awami League, in connection with the attack on army personnel, burning of cars, vandalism and snatching of weapons in Gopalganj. In addition, 3 thousand 200 unidentified people have been accused in this case.

On Thursday (August 22) morning, East Bengal, Jessore Cantonment and Gopalganj Sheikh Rehana Textile Engineering College temporary army camp commander Lt. Colonel Md. Maksudul Alam filed this case in Sadar police station as plaintiff. Officer-in-charge (OC) of Gopalganj Sadar Police Station Mohammad Anichur Rahman confirmed the matter.

According to the statement of the case, local Awami League leaders and supporters blocked the Dhaka-Khulna highway with domestic weapons at Gopinathpur bus stand of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila at 5 pm on August 10 in protest against forcing the Awami League president and former prime minister to leave the country. As a result, hundreds of vehicles were stuck on both sides of the road. In situations where miscreants can set fire to vehicles at any time, common people seek the help of the army.

After getting the news, Major said. Under the leadership of Akikur Rahman Rushad, army personnel on duty in Gopalganj arrived at the scene and asked the protestors to leave the highway and conduct a peaceful protest. When the agitators got into an argument with the army personnel, at one point they attacked the army personnel. 9 people including four army officers were injured. Besides, two army weapons (rifles), six magazines were stolen and a vehicle was set on fire and two vehicles were vandalized.

In this incident, Gopalganj District Awami League President Mahbub Ali Khan, General Secretary GM Sahab Uddin Azam, 106 people including leaders, activists and supporters named 3 thousand 200 unknown people accused by Colonel Md. Maksudul Alam filed the case as the plaintiff.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Gopalganj Sadar Police Station Mohammad Anichur Rahman said that a case has been filed by the army in view of the incident that happened with the army. Investigation has started in the case, no accused has been arrested yet.
