US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Donald Lu is coming to Dhaka today via India and Sri Lanka. Donald Lu's visit to Dhaka on behalf of the US State Department is going to be the first high-level visit after the 12th National Parliament election on January 7.
According to diplomatic sources, Donald Lu will come to Dhaka on a two-day visit on Tuesday (May 14). During this visit, he will participate in several meetings and exchange meetings at various levels of government and private. He will meet with Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud, Foreign Secretary Masood Bin Momen.
Besides, Lu will attend a dinner at the residence of Prime Minister's Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F. Rahman on Tuesday (May 14) night. He is also expected to hold discussions with civil society representatives.
According to the website of the US Department of State, Donald Lu will discuss the climate crisis and strengthening bilateral economic relations in addition to cooperation between Bangladesh and the United States during his visit to Dhaka.
According to the US State Department website, Donald Lu will visit India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh from May 10 to 15. Washington expects that bilateral relations between the United States and the countries will be strengthened during his visit. That the United States wants to see a free, independent and prosperous Indo-Pacific region will be important in Donald Lu's visit.
