Dr. Yunus' permanent bail application was rejected

Nobel laureate economist who was sentenced to 6 months in the case of violation of labor law. Labor Appellate Tribunal did not grant permanent bail to Muhammad Yunus. His bail has been extended till July 4.

On Thursday (May 23), the case was scheduled for appeal hearing and bail hearing of the accused in the court of Labor Appellate Tribunal Judge MA Awal. On April 16, Dr. Four people including Yunus were granted bail till May 23 by the Labor Appellate Tribunal. On their behalf, the lawyer applied for permanent bail. However, the court rejected their permanent bail application and ordered bail till July 4.

Meanwhile, the lawyer did not get the copy of the case for hearing the appeal. For this reason, the hearing has been postponed to July 4.

The Third Labor Court of Dhaka on January 1 sentenced four people, including Grameen Telecom chairman Muhammad Yunus, to six months in prison without labor and fined Tk 30,000 each in a case filed by the Department of Inspection of Factories and Institutions for violating labor laws.

The other three sentenced are Grameen Telecom's former managing director Ashraful Hasan, director Noor Jahan Begum and Md. Shah Jahan Four people including Yunus appealed against that verdict on January 28. The Labor Appellate Tribunal accepted the appeal and adjourned the judgment of the Third Labor Court till March 3 and granted bail to the 4 persons. After hearing again on March 3, the bail period was extended till April 16. After hearing again on March 16, the bail period was extended till May 23.
