Police have rescued 20 people who gathered Teknaf in Cox's Bazar to smuggle abroad by sea.
Teknaf Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Ghiyas Uddin told reporters that they were rescued from South Lambari area of Teknaf Sadar Union on Tuesday midnight.
He also said that three persons involved in trafficking were arrested at that time.
Eight Bangladeshis and 12 Rohingya refugees are among the rescued persons, according to the police.
Among the Rohingya refugees are several children and women. Besides, the officials said that all the eight rescued Bangladeshis are residents of Chittagong division.
OC Uddin of Teknaf Police Station told reporters that the members of the smuggling ring took a large amount of money from them by telling them to take it to Malaysia.
Arrangements are being made to send the rescued 20 people back to their relatives, the police said.
It has also been reported that legal action is being taken against the arrested members of the trafficking gang.
