Eden College student on hunger strike to demand marriage – Bangladesh Diplomat

Seeing the girl entering the house in Dhamrai, Dhaka, the whole family locked the house and ran away. Finally, a minority college student named Vijaya Biswas started a hunger strike to demand marriage in an uninhabited house. On this news, hundreds of festival people from the area flocked to that house.

A team of students has been formed under the leadership of Mad Nurul Islam, former AP member of Sekanda Union Parishad, to ensure the safety of the girl who is on hunger strike demanding marriage. Locals have confirmed that the matter has been reported to Dhamrai Upazila Nirbahi Officer.

The incident took place on Sunday evening at the house of Sarkar Ramanand alias Ramu Mistry of Beros village in Vaishakanda Union of Upazila.

Neighbors and local people said in this regard, Vijaya Biswas, daughter of Narayan Biswas of Chauthail village of Kulla Union of Dhamrai Upazila and intermediate year student of Dhaka Eden College, came to the house around 6 pm on Sunday. Seeing him, the people of the house locked the three rooms of the house and ran away from the house to the family meeting. After that we local former member of UP. College students on hunger strike demanding marriage said that they will continue their hunger strike until they marry Bikash Sarkar.

The college student also said that I have been in a deep love relationship with him for three long years. In the hope of marriage, he has been taking me for trips to different places and has been engaging in physical intercourse periodically against my will. Now that he is planning to marry somewhere else instead of marrying me, I am helpless and come to this house. I will continue my hunger strike till I get married to Bikash.

Upazila Executive Officer Khan Md. Abdullah Al Mamun said that since the boys and girls are adults, they can go to court if they want. However, I am considering what can be done.
