Election Commission announced resignation

The Election Commission (EC) headed by Kazi Habibul Awal has announced his resignation. Chief Election Commissioner Habibul Awal announced his resignation in a press conference on Thursday (August 5). As a result, this commission is going to depart in just two and a half years after taking responsibility.

Since the last parliamentary elections, opposition political parties including BNP have been agitating for the resignation of the Election Commission along with the government.

Awami League president Sheikh Hasina left the country after resigning from the post of prime minister in the students' uprising. After the fall of the government, the interim government removed the officials known as the confidants of the Awami League in the administration.

At that time, there was a demand to abolish the current election commission and form a new commission. Various programs have been held in this regard for several days. This decision came as a result of that.
