Madrasa committee has expelled Principal Maulana Mamunur Rashid Mamun after two months of leave on charges of embezzlement of half a million taka in Gobindpur Nuria Hafezia and Orphanage Madrasa of Feni Sadar Upazila. 35 lakh rupees have been recovered from the principal. Locals claim that the top leaders of the madrasa committee cannot escape the responsibility even if the principal has been expelled in the case of money loss. They demanded a fair investigation into the incident.
According to local sources, Noorani Hafezia Madrasa and Orphanage was established in 1935 on the south side of Gobindpur Hazir Bazaar in Sadar Upazila of Fenir. 150 resident and 650 non-resident students are studying. Since its inception, the institution has been run by local donations. For the last 17 years, the same person has been the general secretary, and the organization is running on his sole decision. The general secretary did not care about the rules. Hanif alias Hanif member and principal Mamunur Rashid Mamun runs the madrasa. Recently, while conducting an audit of the mosque construction committee adjacent to the madrasa, the issue of money embezzlement was caught.
The institution was running well with the funding of the local residents. A few days ago, the construction work of the mosque adjacent to the institution started with the donation of the people of the area. An audit committee of three members is constituted for the purpose of accounting of income and expenditure of the work. When they audited, a discrepancy of Tk 850,000 was found in the madrasa fund. Later, an emergency meeting of the madrasa committee was held. According to the audit committee account, 50 lakh rupees are believed to have been embezzled with the connivance of the principal and general secretary.
At this time, a total of 15 lakh 50 thousand cash taka, 13 lakh taka from the bank account and 6 lakh 50 thousand from the close relatives were recovered from the principal's house in three stages. Shah Alam, a member of the audit committee, said that when a discrepancy of Tk 8 lakh was found in the accounts of the institution while constructing the mosque, when the matter was reported to the president Noor Uddin Absar, he asked for further accounting. In this, half a million rupees was found to be incorrect.
He said that the principal and the secretary could not submit any receipts of the accounts given by the principal and the secretary for the construction of the mosque and the madrasa to the audit committee. The audit committee has objected. According to the report of the audit committee, he borrowed 8 lakh 25 thousand rupees from the principal and took it to the secretary for personal reasons. The principal said that this money was given from the madrasa fund, which has no account. Apart from this, the secretary paid 4 lakh seven thousand 993 rupees but could not show any receipt.
When asked about the 35 lakh rupees recovered from the principal, the secretary said. Hanif said that he gave 30 lakhs to the debtors for the construction of the mosque. 4 lakhs to the grocery store. Which other members including the chairman of the committee do not know. Madrasa committee president Nur Uddin Afchar said, I took over as the president of the institution at the beginning of 2017. Currently more than 800 students are studying in the institution. These include resident and non-resident students. A number of orphan students are also studying.
Regarding the loss of half a crore rupees, he said that General Secretary Hanif Member has recovered the money and he looks after all the accounts of the Madrasah Mosque. I've been sick, so I haven't been able to work on it for a while. There will be a general meeting in the future, then all issues will be discussed. Several local people who did not want to be named said that Hanif member is the elder brother of local UP chairman and Jubo League leader Delwar Hossain Dalim. He is involved in Madrasa money scam.
Removed the principal of the madrasa to cover up his irregularities. He often used the madrasa fund money himself through the principal for personal work. After investigating it, they demanded punishment against the culprits.
General Secretary Md. Hanif said, the allegations against me are completely false. Madrasa principal Mamunur Rashid embezzled money, we recovered money from him. He was dismissed from the institution after finding irregularities. However, he could not give any answer regarding the loss of his money. He was not found when the accused went to the house of the principal to inquire about the complaint. Apart from this, he did not respond when called on his mobile phone.
Feni Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Humayon Rashid said that since it is a private Hafezia Madrasa, an investigation committee will be formed based on the complaint by talking to the local chairman, education officer and other members of the management committee. It would be suggested that those accused of embezzlement be investigated and punished by law, so that no one can commit such corruption.
