The High Court has directed the child of the accused in the Mithapukur rape case of Rangpur to write down half of his property. The High Court also asked to inform about the progress of implementation of this directive.

The person's name is Asadul Islam (44). Asadul is the son of Alef Uddin of Bandher Par area of ​​Salti Gopalpur Union of Mithapukur Upazila. He was sentenced to life imprisonment by the trial court in the rape case. At that time, DNA test identified the child as his. In this situation, he was granted temporary bail for two months by the High Court on the condition that half of the property be written in his son's name.

The lawyer of the accused has been asked to inform the court about the progress of implementation of the order to write down the property on May 21. At that time, Asadul Islam and the victim were present in the court.

On Friday (March 22), went to Salti Gopalpur area of ​​Mithapukur Upazila and talked to Asadul Islam. Asadul Islam said, there is no point in talking about whether the case is true or false. I spent eight years in jail. Now I have accepted the judgment given by the court. Talking to other family members will be done within the time frame set by the court.

At that time, the victim woman said that for 16 years, she has been dragging the case for her son's paternity. I am happy with this judgment of the High Court with the help of RTRS.

On April 30, 2018, the Rangpur Women and Child Torture Court sentenced Asadul Islam to life imprisonment for rape under the Women and Child Torture Act.

Confirming the matter, High Court lawyer Rafiqul Islam said that the accused Asadul Islam has a lot of land in the name of himself and his father. The High Court granted bail to Asadul on the condition that he surrender half of his paternal assets. The court has assigned the responsibility of Nurul Islam Sujan, the lawyer of the accused, to solve the matter.

Rafiqul Islam, the plaintiff's lawyer, also said that a woman got pregnant after having a love affair with Asadul Islam. But Asadul refused to marry her. The woman filed a case of rape in this incident. As the matter was not resolved even after arbitration in the village, it was brought to the court. In the meantime, the woman gave birth to a boy. The boy is now 15 years old. Asadul Islam, the boy's father, has been confirmed by DNA test. The woman started a legal battle to get the boy's maintenance and father's identity.

Note that in 2007, Asadul Islam developed a love relationship with a 15-year-old girl in a village of Mithapukur upazila. Asadul had physical relations with the girl talking about marriage. When the girl became pregnant, he pressured Asadul to marry her. On June 3, 2007, as the girl did not agree to the marriage, she filed a rape case against Asadul Islam and her father at the Mithapukur police station. After the investigation of the case, on December 22 of the same year, the police submitted the charge sheet to the court in the name of Asadul. Asadul was later arrested by the police. After evidence and hearing, on April 30, 2018, Asadul was sentenced to life imprisonment by Rangpur Women and Child Torture Prevention Court Judge Jabid Hossain.
