Fishing in Kaptai lake starts from midnight

After a long period of four months and seven days, the ban on fishing in Kaptai Lake will be lifted from Saturday midnight. Fishing will start from midnight on Saturday (August 31).

Fishing in Kaptai Lake is closed for three months every year for the purpose of natural breeding and propagation of carp. This year, after being closed for three months from April 24 to July 24, the period of ban was extended twice due to lack of sufficient water in the lake due to the lack of fish propagation. Finally, after a total of 127 days, fishing in the lake is starting from today.

Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation (BFDC) Rangamati Marketing Center Manager Commander Ashraful Islam Bhuiyan said that all preparations have been completed. Fishermen and traders are ready to cast their nets into the lake. As the amount of water in the lake is high, it is hoped that the expected amount of fish will be harvested this year.

Udayan Barua, president of Rangamati Fishermen's Cooperative Society Limited, said, after being closed for more than four months, fishing is starting from midnight today in Kaptai Lake. There is a festive atmosphere among the fishermen and traders.

The BFDC fishing wharf will become busy again from tomorrow morning. As there is plenty of water in the lake, we are hopeful of good business this year.

It is to be noted that in Kaptai, the largest lake in South East Asia, fishing is suspended for three months from May 1 to July 31 every year with the aim of making the natural environment of the lake a supporter for the growth of fish resources, including the breeding of carp fish, the healthy growth of juvenile fish released in the lake, and ensuring the natural reproduction of fish. is However, due to insufficient water in the lake, fishing could not be started from August 1. Around 26,000 families are allotted 20 kg of food grains per month during the fishing season in Kaptai Lake.
