Flood death toll rises to 59, highest in Feni


The death toll has risen to 59 in 11 districts of the country due to flash floods caused by torrential downpours and torrential rains from India. Which was 54 people yesterday. Among them, 23 people are in Feni.

This information was revealed in a report of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief on Saturday (August 31).

According to the report, the number of flood affected districts is 11 (Feni, Comilla, Chittagong, Khagrachari, Noakhali, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Sylhet, Laxmipur and Cox's Bazar). Out of the 59 dead, 41 are men, 6 are women and 12 are children. Among them there are 14 in Comilla, 23 in Feni, 6 in Chittagong, 1 in Khagrachari, 1 in Noakhali, 1 in Brahmanbaria, 1 in Laxmipur and 3 in Cox's Bazar and 1 in Moulvibazar. 1 person is missing (Moulvibazar).

According to the report, the flood situation in Chittagong, Habiganj Sylhet, Khagrachari and Cox's Bazar districts is completely normal. The flood situation in Moulvibazar and Brahmanbaria districts has improved and the flood situation is improving in Comilla, Feni, Noakhali and Laxmipur districts.

Also, 68 upazilas were flooded and 504 unions and municipalities were affected. At present, a total of 6 lakh 96 thousand 995 families are watertight. The number of victims is 54 lakh 57 thousand 702 people.

A total of 3,928 shelters have been opened to provide shelter to waterlogged and affected people and a total of 3,93,305 people and 36,139 cattle have been sheltered in the shelters. A total of 519 medical teams are operational to provide medical care to the victims of 11 districts.
