Flooding in Chittagong due to continuous rain, public suffering is extreme

The port city of Chittagong has been submerged almost waist-deep in heavy rain for several hours. On Tuesday (August 20) from 8 am to 12 pm, 4 hours of rain inundated most areas of the city causing waterlogging. Traffic is being disrupted on various roads in the city since morning due to waterlogging. Gate number two of the city, Bahaddar Hat and Muradpur area is really terrible. The residents of the city have suffered greatly.

Fazle Hossain, a resident of the city's Muradpur area, told RisingBD, “Our area is under waist-deep water.” Traffic almost stopped. People are unable to move even on foot. The basements of many shops and businesses have been flooded.

Salamat Ullah, a grocer of Bahaddar Hat area, said that Bahaddar Hat, Chandgaon, Shulakbahan area are all under water. There is no way to open a shop and do business. Water has also entered inside the shop.

It has been reported that due to continuous rain since morning, waterlogging has occurred in various areas of the city including gate number two, Chak Bazar, Baklia, Shulkbahar, Pravartak, Panchlaish, Badurtala, Chandgaon, Agrabad, CDA, Halishahar. In some places, roads and alleys are submerged in knee-deep water.

Chittagong Meteorological Office Forecast Officer Md. Ismail Bhuiyan said that 73 millimeters of rainfall has been recorded in Chittagong in the previous 24 hours till 12 noon. 60 mm of rain fell in these three hours from 9 am to 12 pm on Tuesday. There is a possibility of heavy and heavy rain in Chittagong in the next 48 hours as well. There is also a risk of landslides due to continuous rains.
