Floods kill 13 in Indonesia's Ternet Island – Bangladesh Diplomat


13 killed in floods on Indonesia's Ternate Island

Heavy rains have caused flash floods in Indonesia's eastern Ternate Island. At least 13 people have died due to this terrible flood inundated the residential areas there.

Rua village in North Maluku province was the worst affected by the floods. The main road there and the entrance to the area have been closed. Many houses are buried under the mud.

Rescue teams are working with locals to recover bodies and search for missing persons.

According to the country's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, there is a possibility of high rainfall in and around Ternate City area in the coming days. Local authorities have advised residents to remain vigilant and follow instructions in case of worsening flood conditions.

Heavy rainfall causes frequent landslides and flash floods in Indonesia. Millions of people in the island nation live near mountainous areas and floodplains.
