Former education minister Nurul Islam is the main accused in the murder case in Golapganj

A murder case has been filed at the Golapganj Model Police Station in connection with the murder case of Gauch Uddin, who was shot dead by police-BGB and terrorists during the anti-discrimination student movement in Golapganj Upazila of Sylhet. Rezaul Karim, the nephew of Gauch Uddin, filed this case as the plaintiff last Friday (August 23). Case No-08/136, 23-08-2024 English.

Former Member of Parliament Nurul Islam Nahid is the main accused in this case, former Chairman Manzoor Qadir Shafi Choudhury Elim, former Mayor Aminul Islam Rabel and 134 leaders and activists of district and upazila Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra League and Volunteer League are mentioned. Besides, 200/250 unknown people have been accused.

Meanwhile, although the case was recorded in the police station two or three years ago, the officer in charge of Golapganj Model Police Station, Mir Mohammad Abdun Nasser, did not admit it to the journalists. He also told reporters at 5:50 pm on Saturday afternoon that he has received a statement at the police station but the case has not been registered and is still in process.

Meanwhile, regarding the case, Abul Kalam, the brother of Gauch Uddin, who died on Saturday, told reporters that someone has filed this case at Golapganj Model Police Station by forging the signature of my nephew Rezaul Karim. Our nephew did not file this case. He did not go to the police station to file the case. We don't want to harass any innocent people with cases, we want to punish the real culprits.

He also said, my nephew is a small person. How will he handle the murder case? He also said that my nephew Rezaul Karim will apply to the court to withdraw this case.

Regarding the filing of the case with forged signature, the officer in charge of Golapganj Model Police Station Md. Mir Mohammad Abdun Nasser said that the plaintiff did not appear at the police station when the complaint was filed, but after seeing the signature of the plaintiff's ID card, it was confirmed that it is the signature of the plaintiff.

Notably, the day before the fall of Hasina's government (August 4), 6 people were killed, including Gauch Uddin, the son of deceased Mubarak Ali of Ghoshgao village, in an anti-discrimination student movement across Golapganj upazila. Also, another person from Golapganj was killed in police firing in Sylhet.
