Former Vice President Dick Cheney, a lifelong Republican, will be voting for Kamala Harris for president, his daughter Liz Cheney revealed Friday.
Liz Cheney, a former high-ranking Republican who endorsed Harris on Thursday, made the announcement during an interview with The Atlantic’s Mark Leibovich at The Texas Tribune Festival in Austin.
“Dick Cheney will be voting for Kamala Harris,” Liz Cheney told the audience, sparking applause.

“Wow,” Leibovich responded.
“My dad believes—and has said publicly—that no individual in our country poses a greater threat to democracy than Donald Trump,” Liz Cheney added.
Dick Cheney served as vice president for eight years under President George W. Bush, from 2001 to 2009. Once vilified by Democrats for his role in the post-9/11 wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Wyoming native now finds himself aligned with those he once opposed, all in the name of what the Cheney family views as safeguarding democracy.
Cheney has criticized Trump before, notably in 2016, when he referred to the then-Republican candidate as “a liberal Democrat.” Four years later, during Trump’s re-election bid, Cheney ran an ad for his daughter’s failed campaign in Wyoming, calling Trump “a coward.”
